Holism

The Academy of Integrative Health & Medicine (AIHM) states

Holistic medicine is the art and science of healing that addresses the whole person – body, mind, and spirit. The practice of holistic medicine integrates conventional and alternative therapies to prevent and treat disease, and most importantly, to promote optimal health. This condition of holistic health is defined as the unlimited and unimpeded free flow of life force energy through body, mind, and spirit.

Holistic medicine encompasses all safe and appropriate modalities of diagnosis and treatment. It includes analysis of physical, nutritional, environmental, emotional, spiritual and lifestyle elements. Holistic medicine focuses upon patient education and participation in the healing process.

What to expect from Holistic Nurse-Midwifery Care

Personalized Care

As your health care provider I listen to you, gathering information about your body, your family, your life, and your history.

Together we create a complete picture of your health, allowing us to develop individualized wellness goals and a personalized health care plan to meet them.

Time

Care for the whole person takes time:

  • To establish a meaningful and trustworthy relationship with your provider.
  • To review your complete history, including elements of mind, body, and spirit.
  • To try new methods of care and adjust therapies to the particular needs of your unique situation.

Unlike the standard 15 min medical visit, most of my clients schedule 60 min appointments, allowing us ample time to build our relationship, address your unique needs, and to develop your individualized wellness plan.

Integrated Care

There are many modalities available to support healing and maintain wellness.

As a holistic practitioner I look to alternative as well as conventional therapies to provide the most appropriate care for those I work with.

Most often we begin with your current relationship with your body:

  • What are you putting into it (food, supplements, vitamins, drugs, etc)?
  • What are you getting out of it (fatigue, illness, infertility, etc)?
  • What do you expect/desire from it (energy, wellness, pregnancy, longevity)?

Depending on your individual needs and goals we may explore:

  • Dietary changes
  • Movement/exercise
  • Herbal support
  • Mindfulness/meditation
  • Aromatherapy
  • Homeopathy
  • Medications (As an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner {ARNP} I can provide prescriptions)
  • Referral to appropriate therapy (massage, naturopath, surgeon, etc)
  • And so much more!
